If you live in the province of Quebec, the probabilities are quite high that you’ve already heard of — or even been — to Old Orchard Beach in Maine. If you haven’t been yourself, you might recall a relative praising the sunny beaches of this coastal area located not so far away from the Canada/US borders. While the heydays of this resort town might be far behind — hello ’90’s — it has gained back a lot of its popularity in the past years.
The reason behind this upsurge? Towns nearby are getting more and more attractive to tourist in search of good food, coffee and unique experiences.
Last summer, I went back after 10 years and I found the area changed a lot — for the best. I also remembered why I liked going there in the summer with my parents: the unique coastal vibe of the surroundings — and good news, it’s still happening! Here are the best things to do in Maine, especially in the Old Orchard Beach, Saco and Biddeford area.
Old Orchard Beach
Old Orchard beach never disappoints. With its amazing pier and its long beaches, it’s quite amazing to drive a couple hours from Montreal and suddenly be at the beach.
Ocean House Hotel & Motel
If you wanna stay overnight in the area, I recommend this cute hotel located a 10 minutes walk from the pier. It’s quite cheap and it has a unique charm to it.
Food in Old Orchard Beach
If you love seafood, you’ll definitely be served in the area. From the little shack on the side of the road to a more fine dining experience, they have it all. I really liked Dewey’s, Lisa’s Pizza and Beach Bagels, which are minutes away from the pier, right on the Main street.

If you go to Dewey’s get a lobster roll and fried clams.
