Bora Boréal Estrie: A Unique Glamping Experience on the Water

What if you could sleep on a lake in a cozy cabin with all the comforts of home? That’s what Bora Boréal Estrie offers you, a glamping adventure like no other. In this blog post, I will tell you how I spent two nights on the water with my partner, and why you should try it too. Bora Boréal is a new destination in the Eastern Townships, where you can enjoy nature, activities, and amenities in a floating cabin. Here’s a glimpse at our recent experience!

Bora Boréal Estrie is the second location of Bora Boréal, a company that launched its first floating cabins in Sainte-Brigitte-de-Laval, near Quebec City, in 2020. The idea behind Bora Boréal is to create a relaxing and immersive experience for guests who want to escape the city and reconnect with nature. Each cabin is equipped with a solar panel, an ecological toilet, a fireplace, a mini-fridge, a coffee maker. A potable water reserve is provided to guests, and firewood is offered by Bora Boréal. A service building is also available near the cabins, with a lounge area, showers, toilets and electrical outlets. The cabins can accommodate up to four people, with a queen-size bed and a sofa bed. If you are 4 people, make sure you’re (really) comfortable with them, since you’ll share basically an open space. The large windows offer a panoramic view of the lake and the forest. The cabins are located at a very short distance from the parking lot. Guests can enjoy kayaking, standup paddleboarding, swimming, hiking, or simply relaxing on the water. The site is only 30 minutes away from Sherbrooke and popular hiking and stargazing destination, Mont-Mégantic National Park.

Our experience at Bora Boréal Estrie

How was the check-in process and the access to the Bora Boréal Estrie floating cabin?

The check-in process was flawless. Prior to your arrival, you receive an email containing all the useful information for your stay, including the digital keypad code. The check-in process is completely autonomous. However, if for some reason you were unable to access the premises digitally, a physical key is also available.

Pros and cons about the floating cabin and its amenities

Pros of Bora Boréal Estrie Floating Cabin

  • Ease of access to the cabin from the parking lot
  • You can use a free trolley to carry your luggage to your cabin
  • Very cozy ambiance from morning to night
  • Everything you need in the kitchen area to cook a full meal just like at home
  • Even though the showers are located outside of the cabin, in the main building, they are an absolute dream. Plus, the provided shower gel and shampoo smell absolutely amazing
  • Top notch BBQ grill by Canadian brand Napoleon
  • Amazing fireplace / cookstove hybrid by Drolet
  • Every single item, down to the kitchen towels, is branded

Cons of Bora Boréal Estrie Floating Cabin

  • At the moment of writing this article, the cabins are not accessible to persons using a wheelchair, however, the building where the showers are, is already completely wheelchair accessible, including at least one shower.
  • Not very adapted for larger people — the ladder leading to the second floor where the main bed is rather shaky and as a heavy guy, I didn’t feel comfortable going up and down the ladder
  • Most people won’t mind, but if you have more than a smartphone to charge overnight, the lack of real outlets or fast-charging USB plugs was an irritant for me. There are only two USB-A and two USB-C plugs in the entire cabin

Service and the communication with the staff at Bora Boréal Estrie

At one point during our stay, we ran out of propane and we had to call the staff at the reservation central. Within minutes, they dispatched staff at our cabin to help us with this matter.

Would I recommend Bora Boréal Estrie to others?

If you are looking for a unique and memorable getaway in the Eastern Townships, I would definitely recommend having a look at Bora Boréal Estrie. Overall, the experience was really positive for both my partner and I and we would absolutely go back. By making sure you understand it’s more of a camping experience than an hotel one, you won’t have any surprises during your stay. You can book your stay directly on their website.
