Foodie Weekend in Chaudière-Appalaches

The Chaudière-Appalaches region holds a special place in my heart. Throughout my childhood and into my teenage years, my family had a cottage in the picturesque village of St-Zacharie in Beauce. I have so many fond memories of this area and I love to go back again and again to create new ones. Earlier this year, as part of my role as a Bonjour Québec ambassador, I had the chance to visit the region again and see many places that will definitely make you want to visit the region in the near future. Let’s go and discover Chaudière-Appalaches, a region to be lived for real!

This article was created in collaboration with Bonjour Québec and Tourisme Chaudière-Appalaches as part of my role as Bonjour Québec ambassador.

What to do and see in Chaudière-Appalaches?

As the region is very large, it is impossible to do everything in one trip. Here are some activities to add to your list for your next trip.

Light hike at Domaine Taschereau Parc Nature in Sainte-Marie

A true urban haven of peace located in Sainte-Marie, the Domaine Taschereau Parc Nature is very well known by the locals. Birdwatchers, don’t forget your binoculars as there are no less than 135 species of birds on site.

U-pick at Verger à Ti-Paul

From mid-July to Thanksgiving, head to the Verger à Ti-Paul to pick a wide variety of fruits. Raspberries, blueberries, apples and pears are available and it’s a great activity to do with the whole family. Don’t forget to visit the beautiful alpacas at the entrance of the orchard.

Local beer tasting at Frampton Brasse

If you’re taking a diversion to the Beauce region, you should definitely take the time to visit Frampton Brasse. For 10 years now, the company has been offering a wide selection of beers brewed on site. Their outdoor terrace is the perfect place for a beer tasting on a hot summer day.

Stroll around Vieux-Lévis

After a day of discovery, take the time to relax in Vieux-Lévis. This area of the region offers breathtaking views of Quebec City. For ice cream fans, as you finish your walk, it is imperative to go to the very first Chocolats Favoris located on Bégin Street. Vieux-Lévis is easily accessible by car, ferry and bicycle.

Electric bike tour in Bellechasse with VéloPoP!

This activity was definitely a huge hit. First of all, the owner of the company VéloPoP!, Dany Gagnon, is totally charming and a true enthusiast. With its fleet of vintage-style electric bikes, the company has everything to please. You can opt for different tours that will help you discover different areas of Bellechasse. My favourite part of the ride was the picnic by the beach.

The best accommodation in Chaudière-Appalaches

The region is full of superb accommodation of all kinds. The region is well known for its cottages, but there are also superb hotels and B&Bs. During my last visit to the region, I discovered the Gîte Kezako located in Vieux-Lévis and I was able to experience again La Cache à Maxime de Scott. Here are my impressions of both places.

La Cache à Maxime

I have been lucky enough to stay at La Cache à Maxime on several occasions and each time I love the place. The rooms are open plan and also very spacious. I love waking up to the beautiful vineyard when I open the curtains. For those who are looking for a little more space than a room, there are also some great cottages for rent on site.

Le Gîte Kezako

This B&B located in the heart of Vieux-Lévis is very charming. As soon as you walk in the door, you know that you will be in very good hands with Marie-Hélène, the hostess. I really appreciated this place because I felt like I was invited to a good old friend’s house and that she had thought of everything to make my stay memorable. Special mention to the breakfast cooked on the spot by our host and brought directly to the room, at the time of our choice. You can choose to stay in one of the rooms or in one of the sumptuous fully equipped flats.

Where to eat in Chaudière-Appalaches?

When you travel to the Chaudière-Appalaches region, there’s always food involved throughout your trip. At any time, you will have your belly full of food thanks to the excellent restaurants that can be found in the region. Here are a few restaurants that caught my attention during my last stay in the region.

Neapolitan pizza counter at Bleuetière Marland

La Bleuetière Marland first seduced me with their delectable raspberry soft serve. They now also have a Neapolitan pizza counter where you can enjoy a delicious margherita pizza with a good local beer from La Contrebande.

Breakfast at La Cache Resto-bar

Are you staying at La Cache à Maxime and in the mood for a good classic breakfast? La Cache Resto-bar is the place to be. Plus, on a sunny day, the sun comes right into the dining room — enough to give you all the energy you need for a great day of exploring the area.

Bistro Le Verger à Ti-Paul

After a U-pick activity, take the opportunity to discover the menu of the Verger à Ti-Paul bistro. The entire menu is a perfect accompaniment to the many ciders offered on site.

La Contrebande + Boucherie La Bouchée Double

I had been hearing about these two places for a long time and I was eager to try them. I was able to kill two birds with one stone by going to the resto-pub La Contrebande located in Saint-Anselme. On the spot, you can enjoy the large selection of beers from the microbrewery. While sipping your beer, accompany it with an excellent poutine from La Bouchée Double, trust me, you won’t regret it!
