Finally, a true Japanese barbecue has opened in Montreal!
Back in April, when I saw the first mention of a Japanese BBQ that was set to open in Montreal, I got very excited and have been craving this delicious kind of food ever since.
I got my first Japanese BBQ experience when I travelled to California 2 years ago. It was a true revelation to me since I never had that kind of experience before.
Also, if you’ve been following this blog for a while, you probably know by now I love Asian food,so I had to try it real fast!
What is a Japanese BBQ?
The concept is simple: each table in the restaurant is equipped with a grill (hibachi) and you order whatever you’re craving on the menu. Yakiniku is the Japanese term for grilled meat and it usually includes beef, pork, chicken, seafood and veggies.
Each guest can order its own meat or you can order for the table and share!
Gyu-Kaku, the Japanese barbecue king!
The chain is already well established in Japan with over 600 restaurants and is constantly opening new ones around the globe.
Montreal is the 5th city in Canada where the popular chain decided to open.
Check out their locations to see if there’s a Gyu-Kaku near you.
What’s for dinner at Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ?
As it was our first time at this restaurant, we decided to go for the ‘group menu‘ instead of à la carte which is more extensive.
We got Meat Lover’s for 2 which is a really good bang for the buck. For 55$, you will get 6 plates of meat, corn, edamame, karaage, steamed rice, salad and ice cream — more than enough to fill a good appetite.
If you’ve ever been to a Korean BBQ, most of the time, it’s all you can eat and you ‘always’ order too much. With Gyu-Kaku menu, it’s easier to not go overboard and be conscious of what you order since you pay for each plate that comes to your table.
On the à la carte menu, there are plenty of other options if you’re not down to grill your meat yourself.
