Don’t walk, run to Millmans! This new all-day brunch spot in Montreal is opened from 8AM to 3PM from Wednesday to Sunday and is ran by chef & owner Nicholas Gaudette. Located on the vibrant Wellington street in the Verdun neighbourhood, it’s the perfect spot to have brunch in the area. As the place is quite small and is getting more and more popular since it opened last month, there might be a little wait, but it’s totally worth it. Here’s what our first experience at Millmans looked like.
We started off our culinary journey with a great cup of filter coffee. I forgot to ask which roaster they are using but it was definitely good coffee since I later asked for a refill. It certainly tasted like third wave coffee, so I suspect it’s a local coffee roaster, since most of the ingredients used at Millmans are locally sourced.
While waiting for our food to arrive, sitting at our intimate leather bench, we’re looking at old pictures of Verdun back in the days. It’s really a fun and kitsch way to integrate the past in a brand new restaurant. Nice touch!
After a few moments, we finally received our food. We might have went slightly over the top with our order… but everything looked way too good on the menu.
While we have ordered way too much, everything was incredibly tasty. The gravlax in the Bagel & Lox was beyond my expectations and it was a match made in heaven with the capers, the dill, the onions and the cream cheese. They use bagels from Le Trou, which is a staple in terms of bagels in le Sud Ouest area.
Following our waitress’ recommandation, we ordered the underdog of the menu: the Caesar salad — which turned out to be a true classic delight. Exactly the freshness we needed to balance the gravlax.
Last, but not least, we got their famous stack of fluffy pancakes. These small edible clouds drink up just the right amount of syrup. It’s everything you want in a pancake and more!
