Juliette Plaza: Scrumptious Bites of Nostalgia with a Local Twist

My earliest memories of Chef Charles-Antoine Crête go back to one of his appearances on Josée di Stasio’s show back in the early 2010s. The recipe he presented during the episode made a particularly strong impression on me: strawberry tail juice! This anti-waste concoction, thought up by Charles-Antoine long before the zero-waste era, is still one of my favourite summer drinks, nearly 10 years later! Fast forward to present era: his most recent project, Juliette Plaza, is a cool little buvette on Plaza Saint-Hubert where the legendary creativity and touch of madness of the Montreal chef are clearly evident. Immerse yourself in the playful, nostalgic world of Juliette Plaza.

Upon entering Juliette Plaza, one is immediately greeted by a menu that promises a gustatory adventure. Divided into three distinct sections — Appetizers, Fish/Meat & Sides (and of course Desserts!) The menu at first glance reminds me of a classic French bistro. However, a closer read reveals clear touches of Québécois nostalgia, a lovely homage to the province’s culinary roots.

Depending on how hungry you are, you’ll want to order 3 to 4 items per person for a full meal. While the menu is meant to be shared, you might wanna keep some plates like the saucisses cocktail all for yourself (yes, it’s THAT good…!)

Special mention to the pork belly skewers with pineapple & BBQ sauce, which brought me directly back to my childhood, when my late mom cooked her famous jambon à l’ananas — a true Québécois classic.

As a self-proclaimed dessert-eating professional and sweet tooth extraordinaire, I have no choice but to mention the carrot cake, presented as a madeleine, that comes with a white chocolate coulis… simply irresistible!

The ambiance is very casual. Juliette Plaza is a place where you have a bite (or several), along with a good glass of wine, while chatting with your friends about life for hours. The salle à manger is quite small, but filled with colorful Smurfs figurines and carefully hung pages of Asterix comic books. It feels very warm and welcoming. Each table is stamped with a cute little bear, which adds to the overall playful side of the restaurant.

Juliette Plaza is located at the southern entrance of Plaza Saint-Hubert, at the corner of Bélanger. Beaubien is the nearest metro station. Juliette Plaza is next door to Montreal Plaza, Chef Crête other restaurant.
