I drank the most expensive cup of coffee in Montreal
Those who know me know how much I love coffee. At home, I have at least 6 different ways to brew my coffee beans — espresso machine, Chemex, siphon, etc. I do not really use coffee for its caffeinated virtues, but rather for its taste and its comforting side. I love to have a good coffee — I often build my trips around coffee — like this time in Copenhagen where I paid more than $10 for a cup of coffee — it was the best I’ve ever had.
When Saint-Henri microtorréfacteur announced the arrival of a $9 cup of coffee, it obviously immediately piqued my curiosity and I had to try it before it was gone — there are less than 200 cups available for tasting at the 6 Saint-Henri microtorréfacteur locations.
Nano-lot of a real grand cru
Why pay $9 plus tax for a cup of coffee you wonder? Saint-Henri explains it very well in their article: “A multitude of factors are perfectly aligned to produce this great vintage: ideal atmospheric conditions, the exotic variety of coffee trees (SL-28), a meticulous harvest by hand perfectly controlled pulping and drying. ”
By consuming coffee from large chains, we often forget all the work behind a cup of coffee and for several years now, Saint-Henri strives to put forward this impressive work of coffee producers.
How does one feel after a $9 cup of coffee?
First of all, with this very high price point, we expect to have a different experience than a simple coffee in a take-away cup — and that’s exactly what Saint-Henri gets you. The cup and the saucer in which is served the coffee, is a ceramic of a craftsman and there are some golden touches to add to the deluxe experience.
Is it the best coffee I’ve ever had? I’d say it’s the second best, right after the one I drank in Copenhagen at The Coffee Collective. Jérémie and I found the coffee perfectly balanced, very smooth.
In the end, the price was worth the experience and I was happy to encourage a smaller producer and taste a coffee as rare and exceptional.
If you want to live this unique experience, hurry because a very small amount is available in the different locations.
Enjoy your coffee!
