Hawaiian vibes in Montreal at Venice MTL
I first heard about poke back when I visited Hawaii for the first time in 2014. Since then, I’ve been craving this this awesome Hawaiian dish served as an appetizer or an entree. Luckily, a few restaurants in Montreal, like Venice MTL, finally decided to bring it to the city.
What is a poke bowl?
Poke is a raw fish salad seasoned with different ingredients such as soy sauce, green onions and sesame oil. You can basically add whatever, I recommend you check this recipe if you want some inspiration. The food trucks in Hawaii will usually serve this on a slice of lettuce.
A poke bowl is the americanized version of the traditional ahi poke and consists of all the basic ingredients in a regular poke, placed on a bowl of sticky rice.
What’s the menu like at Venice MTL?
The menu at Venice MTL is pretty vast. Inspired by California, they offer a variety of salads, pizzas, tacos and of course poke bowls.
They have a total of four poke bowl on the menu and each of them has unique ingredients and recipe.
My favourite one is the salmon poke bowl because of the miso taste in it.
How to get there?
Venice MTL is located in the Old Montreal and is easily accessible with the STM Orange Line. While you’re there, take the time to wander around this beautiful historic neighbourhood.
